Technical Data Sheet for FM5300
Power consumption
Full operation | Sleem mode (after approx. 5-10 minutes without movement) | Deep sleep (optional) | Operating voltage |
250 to 315 mA (@12 VDC) 125 bis 160 mA (@24 VDC) | 20 - 35 mA | 1,5 mA | 11,8V -30V |
Internal accu
- Internal NiMH recharge-able accumulator with 8,5 Volt and 550 mAh
- Works approx. 2,5 hours in full operation and approx. 15 hours in sleep mode
- The proper functioning of the accus depend on normal wear and tear (due to loading cyclings, temperature differences, etc.). The life time of the accus are limited (as for mobile phones) and excluded from the standard warranty.
Navigate LED operation (GPS Signal)
If ignition is ON and connected, the Navigate LED must blink every second.
Behavior | Meaning |
---|---|
Permanently switched on | GPS signal is not received |
Blinking every second | Normal mode, GPS is working |
Off | GPS is turned off because of deep sleep mode Or GPS antenna short circuited |
Status LED operation (GSM)
If ignition is ON and connected, the LED must blink every second and faster if data is transferred.
Behavior | Meaning |
---|---|
Blinking every second | Normal mode |
Blinking every 2 seconds | Deep sleep mode |
Blinking fast for a short time | Modem activity |
Blinking fast constantly | Boot mode |
Off | Device is not working or device firmware being flashed |
Positionierung of the GPS device
The device shall be located on a safe, clean and dry location under the dashboard.
Only if you want to use acceleration data for measuring harsh braking, harsh acceleration and cornering it is recommended to
- place the device with the antennas showing to the back (against driving direction)
- place the device horizontally and in driving direction
Position of the GPS Antenna
GPS-Antenne shall be placed directly on or under the dashboard close to the front window shield. Avoid to shield the antenna with metals, cables, ...
The sticker of the antenna must show to the ground, the other side shall have a good view to the sky.
Standard installation with main power, ground and ignition
PIN | Meaning | Colour | Necessary | Description |
11 | VCC (10-30) V DC | red | yes | Main Power +11,8 V - 30 V Direct Current |
1 | GND (12-30) V DC | black | yes | Ground |
15 | DIN 1 / IGN | yellow | yes | ignition power |
Note that
- The main power must remain stable even if the vehicle is turned off (and goes into sleep mode)
- The real ignition must go to 0 if the vehicle is switched off
Installation Tests:
Data with ignition ON and OFF and the gps position must be shown in the test tool.
see Installation Tests and Reporting

1 | GND (12-30) V DC | black | unbedingt | iButton reader grey wire connect to ground |
19 | OUT1 | violet | unbedingt | black wire of alert buzzer (negative output) |
11 | VCC (10-30) V DC | red | unbedingt | red wire of alert buzzer (main power) |
5 | DIN 2 | green-white | optional | Privat switch (to main power) |
Installation Tests:
The driver identification is managed by the software. The test will only work if the standard mode "logoutmode=2" is used.
If ignition is ON, the buzzer must start to beep. If you place the ibutton chip on the reader, the buzzer must stop

Connection to Garmin navigation device
The Garmin FMI cable must be connected
- with the PORT1 plug of the tracking device
- with the red wire to permanent power
- with the black wire to ground
More options
Please contact us prior to the installation because additional configuration and firmware changes are necessary on the device:
- CAN High (PIN 12) and CAN Low (PIN2) can be connected to Fleet-Management-Service interfaces (only by experts). The truck must have an active working FMS interface.
- RFID driver identification
- Outputs for relays
- Temperatur-Sensor (1wire): connect the red sensor wire (data) with white PIN 13 (1wire data), the black sensor wire (ground) must be connected with ground (PIN 1 GND)
- External batteries
Connection of FMS-CANBUS data (only for trucks with active FMS interface)
Please contact us so that we can remotely configure FMS data for this device!
The truck needs an active working fleet management system interface. This is not standardized.
We provide photos WITHOUT garantee where to find the CAN HIGH and CAN LOW.
The customer is responsible for choosing a reliable workshop for the CAN connection.
